Welcome to the Consumer health InfoRmatics for Engagement (CARE) research lab in the Information Systems Department at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). We are passionate about designing or redesigning, implementing, and evaluating technologies that empower people with the knowledge and tools that they need to engage in their health and healthcare. We are particularly interested in identifying, understanding, and addressing potential digital health disparities (i.e., when health technologies worsen existing health disparities). We use a variety of methods in our research including traditional human-centered design and computational methods.
